I'm in search for the correct English term that describe a shorthaired
cat that does not have a pedigree or belong to a recognized cat breed.
I need it for a good friend who is translating a part of her site
(about hand rearing kittens) from Dutch into English.

Me and my boyfriend are moving out and we want to get a pet kitten.  I

We need to find our cat a new home. She needs to be indoors because
she's killing birds. We can't keep her inside because our place has
dog doors. We've tried craigslist (http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/

Has anyone ever figured out why cats sometimes climb to the highest point
they can in a room then stare at the ceiling and cry? I've had numerous cats
in different houses do this, so I'm sure I'm not alone. One of mine is doing
