Cleo's Mousiekitten17 Jul 2005 01:49 GMT5
The whole house is silent and then we hear the most mournful mewing.
It sounds very disturbing, like a cat in terrible distress.  One of us
gets up and tries to find the crying kitty, and it turns out to be
Cleo.   She is not in distress at all.  She is standing in the middle
Where is safe these days (OT)17 Jul 2005 00:30 GMT43
So my train line and sometimes bus were bombed last week.  Turns out
the bombers lived in the city I grew up in where my family still live,
and a car with explosives found in the town my partner comes from,
where his family still live - anyone got an island going spare I can

*classical music plays in the background...a delicate piano and string
piece in a minor key that might well be a /nocturne/...*
*bass beat begins in the background and rises in volume until...*

A little something to share16 Jul 2005 22:46 GMT5
I wanted to share something positive, but not much is going on here.  So
I went back through my personal archives and found this little poem I
posted a few years ago.  It's still as applicable as it was then.
Kitten face peeking from under the bed.
[OT] Arkansas?16 Jul 2005 18:13 GMT17
Dumb question:
Why is the state of Kansas pronounced "kan-zus" but the state of Arkansas is
not pronounced "ar-kan-zus" but rather "Ark-en-saw"?

Desperate Housecat16 Jul 2005 17:26 GMT3
Hee hee!  He's getting so desperate for scritches.  This morning I was
lying in bed and Vino was all over me, headbutting, going "vroom,
vroom, vroom" with his purr motor, etc.  I was still too sleepy so I
didn't pet him much.  So if the hand doesn't come to Vino, Vino comes

A recent photo of Tucker16 Jul 2005 16:29 GMT11
Ya'll may remember the tales and travails of taming the wild Tucker in
summer 2003.  Just thought you might like to see what a sweet solid lap
fungus he's become.  Go to the last photo #70 in the album.

Cleo ignores the mousies any time we humans are around.  Actually, she
refuses to play when she thinks a human might be watching her.  We
keep finding the bathroom mat accordioned up against the tub,
straighten it, and find it accordioned again a half hour later.  We

Investigating the "Giant Water Bowl"16 Jul 2005 10:49 GMT1
When Trouble was a kitten we kept the lid down on the bowl to keep the
cats out of the "giant water bowl".  So Trouble had never seen the
inside of the bowl and evidently she was curious about what could be
in there that was so important as to get to have a lid on it all the
Odd Explosion in the Kitchen (OT)16 Jul 2005 10:29 GMT21
I was sitting here minding my own business, reading the ng, with Persia on
the pillow to my left.  Suddenly I heard this EXPLOSION.  I have a glass
front door and I swear I thought someone had thrown a brick through it.
I ran to investigate.  A corked, empty wine bottle from last ...

If cats made horror movies, what would yours think was scary enough to
rate its own horror movie?

Help needed with kitty peeing problem.16 Jul 2005 03:39 GMT7
A friend of mine has a problem with her cat peeing all over the
apartment. She says it's been getting worse for months - the cat will
pee anywhere and everywhere... she took it to the vet the other day
and the vet said that it doesn't have a bladder infection, and it's

My son saw your site and *loved* it.  He is quite a chef, and wanted to know
if you'd like some of his recipes (I was thinking we could add a page for
"guest recipes" on the site).
Here is one he did for New Orleans style seafood stuffed artichokes:
