Patrick update - Cause of death found15 Jul 2004 03:14 GMT3
I forgot to post this sooner:
Last Friday the vet who did Patrick's autopsy told us he died from eating
hemp dogbane. Livestock normally won't touch it, but Patrick did. Some
babies will try anything once, and Patrick was a very "mouthy" baby, from
We have wildlife!!15 Jul 2004 00:08 GMT10
Since Hobo and Speckles are now indoor-only cats, it's amazing how the
wildlife around here has increased and multiplied!  Speckles was
always the Mighty Huntress (laid-back Hobo could hardly care less) and
did her best to decimate the chipmunk population, in addition to
Incredibly cute14 Jul 2004 23:57 GMT20
The vole is sitting in the corner of its temporary home, grasping a peanut in
its front paws and nibbling on it as if it's the last peanut on earth and is to
be savoured. The nut  is being rotated in the voles paws as vole teeth nibble.
It's a very cute little thing :-)
One year anniversary (late)14 Jul 2004 22:36 GMT10
I just realized it's been just over one year since we adopted Fez and
Rufous!  Rufous is a healthy 12 lbs (5.4 kg) ball of orange fur and his
brother Fez is a slender 11.5 lbs (5.2 kg) of mischief. They are such
good boys and we are so happy to have them with us.
Fuga Update14 Jul 2004 22:36 GMT11
Fuga is home now but is going into the vet every morning to get four
injections of medication to help him fight the ulcer.  This morning Fuga ate
a little bit on his own but has refused to eat this afternoon.. fingers
crossed that we are on the road to recovery.
The Starfish Story14 Jul 2004 22:29 GMT2
A man was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset.
As he walked along he began to see another man in the distance.
As he grew nearer he noticed that the local native kept
leaning down, picking something up, and throwing it out into
My Fosters are up for adoption14 Jul 2004 15:59 GMT4
Some purrs please that my latest fosters quickly find new homes, and
hopefully together.  I gave them up yesterday - Salsa and Tortilla (they
were from different litters).  She is a little torti, but has the most
loving personality, always wanted held.  He's typical little boy - ...
Kenzie and The Chair14 Jul 2004 13:40 GMT2
One of Kenzie's favorite spots is a cloth covered padded kitchen chair.
She often naps on it, or just meatloafs on it.
Several days ago, I left the chair pulled out, and I started to notice
that Kenzie would jump up on it when I came into the kitchen, and trill

OT: Dehydrating Fruit?14 Jul 2004 06:19 GMT23
Sorry for the OT; but does anybody know how to dehydrate fruit in the oven?
We are covered up with white grapes, peaches and blackberries and soon apples
and pears. I was thinking. We buy trail mix stuff to feed the squirrels in the
winter, and wondered why I can't just preserve ...

I caught up with Britta and Dennis here in Purrth on Sunday
morning. They picked me up from my house and met Arthur cat even
before they got to my front door. He was rather shy at first, but
then decided he quite liked the attention and spent quite a while
Purrs For The Shirks14 Jul 2004 05:47 GMT23
I talked to Pam today and she requested purrs/prayers for her family. Rob had a
little difficulty and had to go to the ER. She said they thought it was due to
the high altitude. She called from Strasburgh, Colorado. I hope I understood
her correctly, but I did understand that all ...

(US CO) SAVING PRIVATE HAMMER14 Jul 2004 01:47 GMT9
Ten-month-old Hammer spent the first nine months of his life in Iraq
and used to make supply runs with the soldiers serving in the war.
By ANDREA BROWN - THE GAZETTE
Pfc. Hammer dodged bullets in Iraq . . . and lived to meow about it.
