Hello
I wonder if anyone can advise me. We have two tabby rescue cats, who
came from a flat which had 40 other cats. They have lived with us for
12 months and were wormed by the RSPCA vet before they arrived here.
They lived under the settee for 6 months and although they are quite OK
now, they will not let us pick them up but they will allow us to stroke
them. The person who had them before us put them in cat baskets every
time she went out, so they will not entertain that idea.
I think they have worms and have some worm tablets. I can't take them
to the vet. They won't take the tablets either whole or crushed.
(drontal tablets). Can anyone tell me the easiest way to administer
them, please?
Do you think if I chopped up some catnip and mixed in the crushed tablet
that they would go for it? Last time I wormed them, I more or less
starved them until they gave in and ate the food with the crushed tablet
in it. They eat Science Diet Lite, so I can't mix it in with that.
I used to just open my old cats' mouths and throw in the tablets but
with these two, that is out of the question. Many thanks in advance.

I had terrible problems trying to get my Missy to take a worming (or any)
tablet..! I remember once at the vet when it took three of us to hold her
down..! Since then I've given up and I now use drop on liquid preparations
which she'll tolerate.
For a complete flea and worming solution, I've adopted Stronghold for
fleas, heartworm and roundworm, on a once a month basis, plus Droncit for
tapeworm every three months.
It's not the cheapest solution but it *does* work..! They are both
available from your vet.
Hope this helps,
Ivor

I'll ask the vet. Thank-you.

Can you get Revolution over there. It's relatively new here but it treats
cats for fleas, worms and earmites. It's applied like frontline, just
squeeze it on behind the neck.

I don't think so but will ask my vet. Thanks.

You are not the real rangitotogirl!! The real rangitotogirl has red
hair! You are way to fat to even pass for her!....You must therefore
be a troll! So you have been killfiled. Goodby

Just a suggestion....Try rolling up the whole pill (if its small) or pieces
in some smelly special food they like--possibilities, butter, cheese,
liverwurst, soft kitty treat, ham--just so that the morsel is small enough
for one gulp! Make it a little ball so they don't see or smell the
pill...Either put it right on top (not mixed in) of their regular food or if
they'll eat out of your hand, give it to them that way.... but you still
have to look around for those little pills on the floor--cats are amazing
when it comes to only swallowing what they want and spitting up what they
don't want.

This is how I do it. I have a cat (Shadow) who has to be medicated 2x per
day and he used to be the worst to pill. To get him used to it, I would
give the pill as is and give him a treat afterwards. He came to associate
the pill with a treat and is now very easy to pill. You have to find
something they really like; Shadow's treat is cooked chicken meat. Good
luck!
