Spaying and shots offered at city shelters?

For a kitten that was obtained privately and has NOT  had all the shots,
checkups and altering, what can one expect to pay to have that done.?  If I
adopt through a shelter I pay them $70-100 and the kitten as everything done
or payed for already.  So I was wondering about the cost for this
alternative.

Also, do the humane societies offer these initial shots and nuetering etc ?
If so is it much less then the local vet?

Any insight appreciated
Thank you

THe vet who provides our low cost spay neuter service at our Humane Society
charges $30 for a spay/neuter and $5 each for rabies, FeLk, and 4 in one.
Depending on the age of the kitten, it will probably reqire multiple
boosters to attain immunity, and it may possibly not be old enough for
rabies or FeLk yet.

The only way to know what types of services are offered in your particular
area is to call and find out.  If your Humane Society or SPCA doesn't
provide the services themselves, then they probably know of somewhere that
does.

As a followup, most vets in our area charge between $70-$125 for the same as
above.  However, they do not have volunteer staff members who help to keep
costs down nor do they receive grants targeting their low income customers.
None of that $$ includes flea control products, wormers, or any medications
like ear mite remedies that might be necessary for a new cat.

Please do remember that your cat will need an ongoing relationship with a
vet for their whole life, not just one initial visit.  Many people prefer to
establish that relationship as early as possible with the vet who will
provide lifetime care for the animal. Remember, kittens need booster shots,
and even when the cat is an adult they'll need annual checkups and vaccines.
Costs for care do vary, but you want to be sure you're comfortable with the
care that your pet will receive at whatever vet's office.  One of the
benefits of establishing a vet/client relationship early on is that if you
ever need help with something expensive your cat may need done, your vet has
a history of you choosing him, and is more likely to work with you on a
payment schedule or or other measures.
