Does anyone know about cat dandruff? Not sure first time for 7 yr. old cats
with flaky white on coat. Took one to Vet. he thought overactive cleaning &
possible infection and prescribed antibiotics - did not help. Cats have all
natural diet - Wellness & Nutro. What is causing this and how to get rid of?

Is the fur getting oily? If so, then it could be allergies. My cat's skin
has been getting really flaky with almost shiny, pearlescent flakes and her
fur was oily. I learned it was due to a food allergy. I changed her food
and she's fine now. I know you're using good food for your cats, but is
there anything that's been changed recently? Also, the older an animal
gets, the more susceptible to allergies they are. Is this happening to both
of your cats at the same time? If so, then have you changed cleaning
products? Are you using a new laundry detergent?

Yes and thanks, I think you've got it right. Two of my 3 cats have the
symptoms you described and the outdoor (abandoned) cat (I've been feeding
for yrs.and need home for him) have it. Changed the outdoor cat's food to
the Wal-Mart brand -- Special Kitty canned food and has been giving my 2
cats with 'dandruff' snacks of it (they get jealous and want some when I
feed him). I wonder if it's 'Special Kitty' affecting them & the outdoor
guy? I will ck. out the ingredients and change brands.

I think so you've described 'dandruff?' as is ---the 2 of 3 cats who have it
have been snacking on the canned food I've been feeding the outdoor cat
(abandoned)--- could be, will ck. ingredients & stop giving the snack ---
hopefully the dandruff will clear up, otherwise they have lovely shinning
coats and great health. Thanks!

One of our cats gets dandruff occasionally, when he does we give him a
couple of portions of oiy fish, like sardines, and that seems to do the
trick.

Thanks but I don't think that's it as my cats do get omega 3 6 9 oils in the
cat foods I give them --- it's important they do get the right oils and
sardines are a good source. I use 'Becel Margerine' as it's not hydrogenated
and canned Mackerel as sources too.
