Our cat went missing recently and was found trapped in an empty house. He
survived for 11 days apparently without food or water. How long can a cat
survive this way? What is the longest anyone out there has had a cat go
missing like this?

Did you take the cat to the vet? It's likely he suffered irreparable
liver damage and might have to have a special diet for the rest of his life.

It's a good warning, though -- a "heads up" to have your cat undergo a
thorough medical evaluation, in case specific changes need to be made in his
diet or medical care.

I apologize for my bluntness. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy your
cat survived. However, I am concerned he might be seriously ill and you
might not know it. Cats are notorious for hiding pain and disease.

Hi and thanks for this info. How did your cat fare out after the 11 days, is
she O.K. now? I'm curious as a collector of real cat stories. Please let me
know and will you give/allow info for future publication of my book? Thanks,
Maria.

He is doing really well, thank you. If you want the full story, let me know!

There is an article in the latest issue of "The Cat" magazine (the members
magazine of the UK charity Cats Protection) that mentions a cat who had
survived 22 days without food or water in a container on board a ship
travelling from Houston, Texas to Aberdeen. She had apparently survived on
condensation alone to stay alive.

There's a photo of her in the magazine and she really looks beautiful now,
a true survivor :-)  She's living with the person who found her and has
been named "Houston" after the place from where she came..!
