Hello there.
I have 4 days old kittens at home. One of them already has its eyes half
open. I know usually it takes 7 to 10 days (I think?)... So is it normal
that this kitten's eyes are already opening ?

Thanks
Mia

its not normal, but it isn't unusual.  Just keep them clean by gently
cleaning them with a warm damp cloth.. (that is if you don't have a mom cat
there)

If you are hand raising them, do you know you need to stimulate their rear
ends to make them go poop and pee? (forgive me if you do know, but a lot of
people don't)

Hi Connie,

Thank you for your information about the eyes. Just before I checked the
answers to this post, I was at my vet getting some more kitten food for
mommy cat and I asked about the eyes. She said the same as you just did :)
It is not "normal" but it is not dangerous. It happens sometimes.

I also asked about Momma cat seeming to have constipation problems. Vet
advised me to give her a little bit of mineral oil in her food. Did anyone
experience that before and had to give their kitty mineral oil?

Although I am not hand raising them, I do know about the rear ends
stimulation :) Thanks for your concern. It's always better to give a lot of
infos for the case the person doesn,t know. Luckily, momma cat is taking
good care of them.

I haven't had a constipated kitty, but I work for a vet, and have seen
several.. Often the first recommended course of action is cat lax or
laxitone which is basically mineral oil with some flavoring.  Another good
recommendation would be canned pumpkin. (not pumpkin pie filling)  For some
silly reasons cats like it (yes.. like they are used to hunting down the
wild pumpkins) and it gets some extra fiber into their system.  Full fat
plain yogurt is also a good thing for kitties with bowel issues.

are you sure she is constipated?? or is she just not passing stool.  With
all the work her body is doing right now, she might be using all of the
nutrients you are giving her, so she just isn't producing stool like she
used to.  If she's getting in the box and straining, that would be
constipation.. if she's not even bothering to get in the box, then I
wouldn't worry about it for a bit.

hi again Connie...

Thanks for your advice... I took note :)
She goes to the litter box and stays veeeeeery long and scratch and
sometimes meows. I also noticed that she is swollen and red where it comes
out (sorry lol, I don't know the word in english)... I'm sure you know what
I mean.

I've given cats Metamucil before, with no ill effects for the cat. A
tiny tiny amount.
