Hello,

I have a Maine coon, his name is Figaro aka tiggy, aka tiggidy.

My Figaro was found on the side of the road 9 years ago, in a pitiful
condition, someone had cut his whiskers, anyway, he has been scared since I
have him of  certain sounds, the thunder, the rain, new people, a sudden
noise.
For the past month he has been messing the carpet number 2, and had never do
that in the past.
Can someone tell me what can be wrong, he's an indoor cat...

thank you.

Trip to the vet!  Either you will find a physical cause, or you will rule
out a physical cause.  If there is none, look at all possible changes in his
environment, whether brief or continuing.  I or any of a number of people
here will be glad to look at that with you, and come up with ideas for a
remedy.  But first, that trip to the vet.

what has changed?  have you added new people or pets into the house?  have
you changed his litter? the location of his boxes?  was he old when you
found him, could he possibly be going senile?  any other pets in the house?
If so, try adding a few more litter boxes.  also if he's old, and there is
more than one level in the house (two story, or the litterbox is in the
basement) try adding litter boxes on each floor.

Ask your vet if you can bring a stool sample in for testing.. also make sure
he hasn't lost any weight.  make sure there is nothing medically wrong with
him.. cats don't have a voice to say "HEY.. something is WRONG HERE!" the
only thing they can do is eliminate inappropriately and hope you get the
picture.

Nothing has changed, I have another cat Butter, but for the past 5 years
and they getting along just fine, he was a kitten when I found him, and he's
about 9 years old now.

They both have their boxes changed daily, or more.
I am looking at them now, sleeping like babies, and by the way when he
messed the floor, I know right away because his manners changed, he hides
like is ashamed.

Trip to the vet tomorrow...

Thank you so much,

Kiki

I've heard that a lot.. I have more than one cat and one box has worked just
fine till now, so it can't be the box.  but adding a second box is a quick
and cheep way to see if that might be the problem.

What have you been feeding him?  Any change of brands?  Do you give
him milk?  Any plants there that he may have sampled?  Purrs that the
Vet will find the right answer.

If he is a Maine Coon, he has a lot of long hair around his butt.
Sometimes a piece of poop sticks to the hair and drops off later (a
"klingon").  This has happened with my Tiger at times.  When you go to
the vet, have him trim the hair in that area.

Mike,

I know, one Day Figaro was going crazy and I was certain he had a grand mal
seizure, he kept running all over the house non stop, I rushed to the vet
who in 2 minutes, found out the reason, a ding dong in his fur, cost me
$30.00, and a good laugh.

A "klingon"!  Wonderful!  As a Star Trek fan and a Maine Coon fan, I bow to
you!

Well at least when describing the Klingon the poster didn't mention
Uranus.........

This happens alot with cats, short haired ones too.

No, no change of brand, Science diet since I had him, no milk ever, and he
doesn't care for plants, now, I recently took a trip to Italy for 11 Days,
but the same service I used when I have to go, came, they are good and I
didn't have any problems before.

well he could be telling you he wasn't pleased at your going.. especially if
it started soon after you got home.

Makes me wonder is he is developing some arthritis in his back which
makes it a little painful to squat.  Best of luck -- I hope Vet finds
out quickly.   MLB
