We've had our new kitten George for just over a week now and are having
a ball with him.
I was wondering if any of you have any good ideas for some homemade
kitten toys.

Well, my Missy still goes silly over a simple piece of string, and she's
9..!

Cable ties and a rolled up piece of newspaper (to chase) paper bags and
boxes (to climb into), and wrapping paper (destroy) are still huge hits in
our house. All 3 cats are over 7 yrs :)

Well Jazz's favorite new toy is a losing lottery ticket. She sits on the
coffee table and it slide the card along the edge and she bats at it and
tries to bite it.
Rolled up balls of paper are also popular in our house.
Paper bags are good.
And one of the cats has a secret straw fetish but we aren't sure which one
or what they actually do with them, just we find collections of them under
the beds/couch from time to time.

The fav so far is a scrap of weed wacker line ( very bouncy) with a Xmas
bulb
attached fabric kindagood for claws I guess.
Hanging stuff off my rocking chair is fun too but I worry aboutrocking
on his paws.

Isis goes crazy over the little plastic thing that comes with a gallon of
milk. I've heard a lot of cats do. When I toss one on the dishwasher, where
she likes to sit, she gets all weird and starts batting it around. I have
wracked my brain trying to figure out where the magic is in a circular piece
of plastic.
Of course, there is always the old stand-by - Catnip! Once a month I give
Isis a bunch. I scrumple it up and let it rain down on her face and hair.
The I rub some in her hair for good measure. First she sneezes, then she
eats it, and then she goes wacko for a while. Beware - your cat's first
experience with catnip may be dangerous to you! Don't pet the nice kitty
while he/she is buzzed on catnip. You could be sorry . . .

A new pet hamster in a cage.
Just kidding ;o)
I bought Brian for my son and we have him in a see through, well ventilated
hamster home. I came downstairs one night to find Busterdoggy (our cat)
sitting on top with wide eyes "oh I see! she (me) wants to bring her live
prey". The living room door is now shut at night, don't want to scare the
poor lil thing to death!
Busterdoggy was not amused when I shooed him away and promptly bit me on the
ankle! He soon loved up to me though when I got the cat food out ;o)

Here's one my cats love:
What you need:
Toilet paper roll
Pair of baby socks
some catnip
a large bell
needle & thread
Take one of the baby socks and put some catnip in it. Take the other sock
and put the toilet paper roll inside and put the catnip sock inside that.
Add a large bell, but make sure it has enough room to move. Sew up the end
of the sock really well, and if you're concerned about the cat chewing it
open, omit the bell.

I know the post is old, but just noticed.
Elastic hair bands, not the rubbery kind, the one's that are like cloth (not
to be confused w/a scrunchie)
Laser pointers - they go nuts.
When my mom was alive she used to take her empty cigarrete packs and crumple
them up for the cats to play with.
Also anything they shouldn't have is fun to them, like my shoelaces.

Blank paper sheet, rip in half, crunch each half in your hands making two
paper balls. Toss on floor and you'll see cats love these crunchy paper
balls more than anything!

Are you f.cking retarded? Don't you read other peoples posts? Maybe
you think your fellow cat lovers are to stupid to know how to wad up a
piece of paper, and need written instructions to do so.
Dawn wrote in message 3 of this thread:

(Thanks Dawn! but how do you manage to get those papers into balls?)
Duh Maria, take a smart pill.
