Is it possible to train a kitten to sleep in a certain spot? If so how?
George prefers my head and or pillow to the tent-bed we got him.

Any ideas?

you can train him NOT to sleep somewhere.. but to request a cat sleep only
in a specific spot doesn't seem likely.

Personally Im honored when my kitties want to sleep with me.

You are suffering from the Bed Hog Blues. I had a severe problem with this
as Isis would always hog the wrong side of the bed. I would put her on the
right side and she would promptly return to the wrong side.

I have resolved this problem. I got a "kitty nest" by sending in "Paw
Points" from my cat litter boxes. It's just a circular padded place for her
to sleep. What made this work was the addition of two essential ingredients:

1. A $15.00 heating pad from Walgreen's,
2. a towel.

An hour before bed time I warm up her spot by turning the heating pad on
low. The towel is over the pad, of course. When bed time comes she might
jump up on my bed for a few minutes but it is not long until she makes a
bee-line for that nice toasty warm heating pad. She is unable to resist the
urge to climb in and sleep there.

You are SO smart, Mike in Illinois (accept for being in Illinois this
winter).  Isis must be one happy cat in that warm, cozy bed.  My Coon girls
have similar beds, minus the heating pads, that they go to every morning
after waking me and making sure I'm up nice and early!  They sleep well at
night, too, thankfully.  They usually start out in bed with us, then move to
other fave spots in the bedroom for the rest of the night.  Is Isis a pretty
good nighttime sleeper?

Hi, Diana! <-:

Thanks for the nice words! I must be honest. I got the idea from a girl who
works at one of my clients' companies who has a dog. She always asks me how
Isis is and, of course, I always have a long winded set of stories to tell.
When I explained my Bed Hog Blues misery she gave me the idea!

Initally, when I first let Her Majesty sleep in my room, she decided that
6:00 a.m. was an ideal time for me to get up. She would climb on my bed and
jiggle the door knob next to me. The 2nd day she tried this we developed an
understanding based on a flying pillow.

Since that time Isis and I get along just great in the sleeping department!
"Morning" is defined as the time I get up.
When she flops into that pre-warmed kitty nest her eyes go all googly and
she slips into a trance. Once in a while she creeps upstairs for a midnight
snack but always always she is called back to the warm heaven of her heating
pad kitty nest.

When I do get up (I'm a nite owl) I feed her canned food. This is critical
to our success together for the rest of the day.

There has been compromise on both sides of the fence and we have worked
things out to a smoooooth routine!

I love your web page and "The Furry Ones". They both look very very
squishable!

P.S. Do you ever use your cats as pillows?

Thank you kindly.  Yes, my girls are of the genus snuggleupagus.

They look a lot like pillows, don't they? And those pics were taken before
they were fully grown!  Actually, I'm the one who usually gets to be the
pillow.

Sounds like you and Isis have the morning routine down pretty well to both
of your satisfactions.  Good for you.  Celeste and Camille (especially
Camille) have their ways of pretending that they're trying really hard not
to disturb me on mornings after after we've had a heart-to-heart about my
needing more sleep, but they know what they're doing.  Sometimes they will
walk on my husband until HE wakes me (they each weigh 17-18 pounds, and know
how to tread lightly or to put their whole weight behind each paw), or one
of them will emit this buzz-saw purr from a corner of the room that might
wake the neighbors if we didn't live in the middle of a 10-acre woods.
Usually they just whisper in my ear, pat my cheek, and lick my face when
they think it's time for me to be out of bed.  My fault, of course -- I've
allowed them to get me up since they were kittens.  And I must say, they
usually wait till it's light outside.
