Due to Racial concerns regarding the term "Coon" In California there are
plans to propose a proposition to drop the term "Coon" and use a different
word for the name of the breed. The new term will be announced nextweek.

California is a stupid state.

What next? Anyone owning a black cat will have to call it "colored"??

Any all-white cats will be investigated in case they are members of the
Kitty Klux Klan?

Just watch out for those alley cats, they are secretly dealing in catnip.

Ye gods I've heard it all now..! I love the US and have spent much time
there, and have many good friends in California in particular, but none of
them are *that* stupid..!

Erm, this isn't April 1st, is it..?!

They have it backwards, don't they?  The idea is not to call *people*
'coons.  Personally, I don't know the history or the meaning of that
reference, but I'm all for doing away with it simply on the grounds that any
slang term for a whole group of people sounds tacky and is probably meant to
be derogatory.  I will *not*, however, put up with anyone deciding for *me*
against a perfectly legitimate name for my cats.  Silly.  Unfortunately, not
surprising though.  I've wondered before why the misguided PC Police hadn't
jumped on the idea.

What's next?  This is nuts.

Ok, if they go further and they we have to call black cats "colored" what
about black and white cats?????  In fact let's go a step further - zebra's
let's do away with that term, then what would we call those striped things
in Africa?

Maybe they got the idea from those who want to change the
name of Pit Bulls to "New Yorkies"

Do you have a source for this name change in California?

Surely people on this group are smarter than to fall for this obvious
'troll' for responses.

Don't be so sure the report is false, Alan -- if it has happened yet, just
wait, it will.  This kind of thing is the reality of the times we're living
in.  Have you spent any time on college campuses lately (especially those
that consider themselves progressive)?
