Well...
The pneumonia was secondary to cancer, and both vets simply couldn't see
it on the x-ray because of the fluid. He had one decent week back at
home, then the fluid started building up this past monday, and he was in
increasing distress. Took him in this morning thinking the pneumonia
had simply rallied, but an x-ray revealed his lungs were swimming in
fluid, and he could see that there was a tumor.
I made arrangements to go in this afternoon to have him put to sleep,
but he died in the interim. It breaks my heart that I wasn't there with
him when he past on, and I'm feeling terrible guilt for the miserable
quality of the last couple of weeks of his life. At least the suffering
is over for him now. He looked so peaceful lying there; that's the way
I'd like to remember him. However I just can't stop from flashing back
to his pathetic state of the last few weeks.
No words are necessary, but I just had to share. :-)
Love always, my dear sweet friend. You will be forever missed.

"Rise up slowly, Angel, it's hard to let you go."
It is hard to let those last bad pictures disappear, but we
must keep trying. Purrs for better days ahead. MLB

That's a beautiful thought and image, MLB. I'll try to keep it in mind.

I had found this poem on-line when my pursey tiddy passed away. It was very
comforting to me and so I wanted to share it with you.
Just this side of Heaven is a very special place called the Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that
pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food,
water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are
happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very
special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body
begins to quiver. Suddenly, she breaks from the group, flying over the
green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and
your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion,
never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting
eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Indeed it is. I was moved to tears reading it. Thanks for the thought.
