I was wondering if any one can tell me how long cats pad for????

My kitten Mr Tibbs pads at a toy dog i have as though he is feeding
from his mum, he seems happy and purrs away whilst doing this but i
was just wondering if its a comfort thing, will he grow out of it or
is he unhappy???

Advice on this matter would be great!

Our tribe are mixed, some still pad now and some don't... one of the
ones that does is still padding even though she's now 3 and has always
been with her mother so it's not down to premature seperation...

Personally like purring I think it can both be a sign of comfort and
also a displacement activity for comfort reasons...

They do it for comfort.   I had one cat do it for a few months, another who
would did it till the day he died when he was 15.  Depends on the cat.  If
you don't like it, stop him when ever he starts, hopefully in time he'll
learn to not start.

As far as I know, it's a comfort thing. Some cats grow out of it, others
don't. It really depends on the cat.

If he seems happy doing this, I wouldn't worry about it.

Here we call it Kneading like kneading dough.  Ours do it to.. Sometimes our
female will scratch first knead after.   Our male has claws so the kneading
is pretty bad when I haven't clipped his nails.  Female is declawed but we
resuced her that way.  She came from the shelter.  We were both going back
to school and one of the books I have says that good company for a cat is
another cat so off we went to the shelter and adopted her that way.  If it
was up to me she'd have claws.   Anyway.. she kneads my polar fleece blanket
alot and our male kneads our arms.  It hurts.
