Dog and kitty litter don't mix...

I have a new problem.  I can't wait to get over these hurdles and settle
down to the happy family!

Anyway, the dog(6 yoa) and kitten are getting along famously, after 2 1/2
weeks, even playing together.  However, the dog is a bit too interested in
the litter box.  I'm sure she has inhaled some and may even be eating it,
along with the kitty poop.  I know this has to be bad for her since she is
sneezing and coughing.  Clumping cat litter just isn't good for the nasal
passages, I'm sure ;-)  She came out of the bathroom yesterday with kitty
litter all stuck around her mouth, the poor thing <I can't stop laughing,
but I know it's serious>.

I can't really put the litter box somewhere that the dog can't get to it but
the kitten can, without confining the kitty to her own part of the house.  I
want them to be together to play and keep each other company anyway.  The
litter boxes with a top have an opening large enough for the dog to get her
head in so that won't work, and I don't think the kitten is big enough for
one with a door.

Has anyone had this problem before and how did you deal with it?  I'm hoping
there are drops, or something like that, to put on the litter that will
repel the dog but not the kitten????

Thanks for any suggestions :-)

Yeah, I understand dogs love kitty crunchies. Ewww! We don't have dogs, but
we do have of of these and it's very good:

Thanks Victor :-)  That would seem to fix the problem, but I was hoping for
something a bit less expensive :-/  Anybody have a cheaper idea????  If not,
I will probably go for the Perr-fect Privy.

Thanks for the recommendation, Victor.  I decided to get one of the
purr-fect privies.  I know it will fix the dog problem and I hope it fixes
the tracking problem.  What is you experience with the tracking?  Was it
eliminated completely or just mostly?  Did you get it when your cats were
small so that you had to use a booster (that's what I'll have to do)?  How
did you introduce it to the cats and did they take to it immediately?

There is almost no tracking, just a little tiny bit of litter that comes
off when the cats jump off of it. They figured it out quite quickly, actually,
but you can help them by putting them inside and letting them get out by
themselves. You probably won't need a booster, our foster kittens are about
6 weeks old now and they're using that box regularly.
Get the largest rubbermaid container that will fit in there and fill it with
a good 4 inches of good clumping litter (we like EverClean).

Just wanted to let you know that I got the purrr-fect privy
already and the kitten took to it readily!  It was a little ex-
pensive, but it is serving it's purpose and I like it.

Thanks for the recommendation, Victor:-)
