Bodecia age 1yr was neutered yesterday.  The vet had to go through the
front, as poor kitty was deemed to chubby for usual access from the side.

She was sent home with a hernia showing. Is this normal?!! What are your
views please.

Thanks

The normal spay incision is through the abdomen, (the "front" of the cat)
right about the same spot as the belly button.  I've never heard of going in
"through the side".  I don't think you understood  the vet correctly.  A
little hard knot swelling is to be expected. It's not a hernia.  Excessive
swelling that is very soft and mushy or with discharge, or excessive redness
around the incision is abnormal and should be seen by your vet immediately.
Don't wait for the appointment to remove the sutures to voice your concerns.

Hi
This is my mothers cat.  She was sent home last month after the first
attempt, with her side shaved and stiched up and the info that she was too
fat for the operation! Perhaps it's an English Vet's approach?

This time, Bodecia had a small bump about 0.5cm near the new scar, the vet
said it would go down.

Earlier today I told my mother to take the cat back in, because all the info
I could find on the net said that she would need an operation to correct it.
It was a hernia.

Bodecia is now back at home with a clean looking stitch up job on her chubby
little tummy.

Thanks for your reply. :O)
