Hi everyone
I have a friend who said they had to put down there 10 month old male cat,
because he had a parasite. I don't agree with what she did. I was
wondering if anyone here knows of a parasite that would lead to having to
put the cat to sleep.
Thanks

I don't know of one at all. Can't believe there is a vet in this world that
would put to sleep a healthy cat that had a treatable issue.

I can't imagine this. What kind of parasite? Most are easily treated and
usually without great cost. Did your friend consult a vet? If not, please
try to educate her because parasites are very common and it would be tragic
for this situation to be repeated.

Yes my friend did consult a Vet and the vet notified them that the cat had
to be put down. Due to parasite. I'm getting my friend to send me a copy of
the paper work from the vet. I don't believe that there was a need for it.

Are there other cats in the household? Could the cat have been put
down to protect the other cats in the household?

He was the only one in the household.

Im starting to think you have your terms mixed up.. could it be a virus and
not a parasite? If the kitten had leukemia, or feline aids, then while it
wasn't 100% necessary to put the cat down - depending on his health - a lot
of vets recommend it.

If it was 10 months old and had the parasite for that long untreated it may
have damaged organs. Let us know when you get the paperwork.
