cat fur

Isn't cat fur annoying?  Anyone else get the stuff up their nose and just
can't get rid of it.  And when you have more than one cat in the house you
sometimes end up with clumps of it all over your home?  I sometimes wake up
with clumps of white fur all the way down the hallway.  Once I found white
fur hanging outta our other cats mouth.

I was just discussing this with BF last night.  One thing about
Sabrina - she loves to sleep on our bed, but she (thankfully) never
sleeps on our pillows.

Although, at night, I use a pillow to curl up with to support my
shoulders.  I sleep on my side.   The pillow is under the blankets.
Sabrina's fav sleeping spot is half on that pillow and half on me,
cuddled up right next to the curve or my body.

Thankfully I don't get kitty fur in the face that way.  :)

I think it's in the air.  No matter how much I clean , how much I vaccum,
use on of those sticky things, brush the darn things I still sometimes go to
work with cat fur in my darn nose.  It's a hard sucker to get out to.

They sell these devices called "vacuum cleaners". They are very useful
for cleaning cat fur, among other things. I recommend you get one and
use it at least once a week.

Also, get a good brush and brush your cats -- every day would be a
good idea.  Cats usually love this and helps you bond with the
kitties.  MLB

I think there's some sort of appliance for de-furring your tongue, Ivor.
(Hey, Victor, no offense intended, OK?)

Mostly, I was posting to say that I've always had this fantasy about how I
wish I had saved all the cat fur that I've brushed and combed off of my cats
over the years (or found masquerading as tumbleweeds around my house).  I
have various ideas about what I might have done with it.  The worst is to
stuff pillows to use for allergic house guests who overstay their welcome.

Open question to the NG:  What would YOU do with all your accumulated cat
fur if you had saved it?

Make another cat.  With all the fur that's around my house I 'd have enough
to make a litter of them.  The stuffing the pillows with the fur idea is a
good one.  A nice cozy cat fur blanket would be nice to.  Knitted maybe.

cat fur doesn't spin, so you can't make yarn from it.

Well it was only a suggestion.  I wasn't really gonna make a blanket from
it.  I was watching Dog Days on Animal Planet and some guy took his dog fur
and had it spun and knitted into a hat.

well, you could use it to make a felt blanket, just not a knitted one.
i'll bet it would make a nice warm felt.

I'm sure that there was some study somewhere done if you could spin cat fur
or not.  The lady on Dog Days took the dog fur and spun it with thin wool.
She made the person a hat.  It was weird.  The guy had a big black garbage
bag full of dog hair.

i believe it's due to it lacking a twist to it like wool, but i'm not
sure.

Another cat -- or a litter of them!  Wouldn't that be great?  I'd make
another Whiskers; another Amber and Purl; another Claude, Earnest, Alice,
Alexander, and Tiger Lily; another Charcoal, some more Muffins -- the list
goes on, but I won't.  A cat blanket?  I don't know -- I prefer my cat
blankets to be alive.  Thanks for the response!

Since my QT died, I have decided to keep my cats furr (when I brush them
only) and whiskas. I will make a pillow of it once I have enough furr (they
are all shorthairs!)

It's going to take you awhile to get that pillow then, isn't it?  I've have
two very furry cats for almost 8 years, and probably could have a bunch of
pillows by now.  Good luck!  And sorry about your QT.

Thank you, I am sorry too. He was the sweetest little thing.

As for the pillow, I suppose it doesn;t have to be a big one, a litle say
10*10" pillow will suffice. Anything left from the one you loved so much
will mean a helluva lot once they are gone. I should know.

This may sound crazy, but does anybody know if in UK, the vets or someone
could preserve say a tail of your cat after their death, that you can then
tresure. I know in America stuffed animals are popular, but I couldn;t bare
the idea of stuffing my dead cat. But saving a tail...I dunno just a crazy
thought I had.

I'm sure you could chop off the tail of a dead cat and take it to a
taxidermist (if you have the stomach for it, mind you).  But think how
uninspiring a lifeless tail would seem.  There's so much purr-sonality in
cats' tails when they're alive, and that would all be missing.  For me, a
few photos and my fond memories are preferable -- and maybe one of those cat
fur pillows!

I don't really think it's popular in the US to have a pet stuffed when it
dies.  I read an article about some extremely expensive freeze-drying
process that was said to be catching on, but I have no idea with whom.

Oh God no, I couldn;t possibly do it myself! Maybe a vet could?

You are right, come to think of it more, I suppose I'd cry everytime I
looked at the tail, and it would probably make it worse, not better. Pillow
is probably much better option :) and lots of videos.

Yes, I got millions of pictures and videos and cinouter screen saver, anda
website, but nothing cat give me that feeling of touching their wonderfull
furr and feeling their wormth and hearing that blessed purr. This is why I
thought of a tail, maybe just maybe if I can touch the tail, I can still
have a little peace of them when they are gone. See I haev lost a pet, my QT
got run over 4 years ago, and I am still not over him. he was an amazing
creature and I'd give anything to hear him and touch him again. That is why
I had these kind of thoughts even though they may sound wierd.

I forget which show I was watching but this lady had her 2 pet poodles
stuffed.  They were champions of osme kind and she had em stuffed.  She'd
take em out for walks and let them play with the poodles.  It was weird.
People are having their pets freeze dried too.  I think I watch 2 much TV.

I am not discounting your grief for your cat.  My thought would be to
find another one to love  - so take yourself to the Humane Society (or
rescue center) and give that affection that you still have to a
living, purring, playing kitten who needs it very much?  MLB
