I find this NORMAL behavior as four of our five cats will do exactly the
same.

Lucky, every cat I've known gets mad when someone pets their belly

how would you react if you went and got a people massage?

Chances are he's trying to find the water in the bowl, and can't... so he's
pawing at it trying to figure out where it is, and in the process is dumping
the bowl. Cats have pretty horrid eyesight for things that aren't moving.
Get a heavier bowl.

My cat just likes to play in water-a glass with any water in it at all
immediately gets turned over-so it is plastic water bottles-he won't
mess with those. Also he will drink water from any faucet left on
till he upchucks-so I time those drinking sessions. When we took him
camping, on hot days he would jump out of the front of the canoe into
the lake and I would retrieve him as he came along side me in the rear
of the canoe-the cat clearly likes water.
