Here is an amusing story about my 11wo kitten.  She had been napping on
my lap when she woke up and went into attack mode.  She started tumbling
all around chasing and attacking her tail.  Then I would reach out to
pet her and she would attack my hand, gently biting it and meowing
in an attempt to sound ferocious.  This went on for 15 minutes before
she jumped down and proceeded attacking her numerous toys.

Very cute, perhaps she was dreaming of her past life of being a lion
or tiger and had some unfinished  business she wanted to address. Or
even better, perhaps she is just being a kitten.

Yes I remember when my female Maine Coon was just 8 or 9 weeks old. She
would just go from one end of the room to the other attacking every thing in
sight. It was so funny as the tiny little fur ball would just arch her back
to show you how fearsome she was and how you better not get too close or you
too would suffer the fate worse than death.

Attack by the fluff bucket.

My little Tenzing is hitting that phase. <sigh> kept me up all day
yesterday. attacking toes, elbows, any body part not under blanket. She's
about 7-8 weeks old I think. I forget when shew as born, She's the last
survivor of my Tweeker's first litter. Tweeker died almost a month ago. I
had to bottle feed them. Her sister and brother are with mommy now, and
Tenzing who was the runt of the litter is only one left and doing just fine.
She started doing these cute little kitten things last week or so. I'm so
proud of her. She's learning slowly to use litter box. Understands for solid
waste, but still pees all over, on tiles, but all over. <sigh>
great, she's back to attack kitten on my toes. <sigh>

Sad to hear the rest of her family is gone but nice she is still alive.

Still it sounds like your toes need a good attacking by a fearsome little
kitten.

I read with interest your post about your female Maine Coon.  Are Maine
Coons the only breed of cat with large (black) eartips?  Are there any ways
that you can tell if your kittens/cats are Maine Coons?

Maine coones especially the males have the lynx points as they are called.
My female has the beginings of her points but they are just starting. She is
only 2 years old so she is still growing. They grow for at 4 years on
average. Mine is in a real growth spurt at the moment. Her sister is also
pointless however both her brothers have points already and are almost twice
the size of her and her sister. Her father is all black and has his points.

I also know norwegian forest cat have lynx points as well. not sure of any
other cats that have points.

Well I know mine is a coon as I know the parents and they have papers but
mine does not as she is a rescue as the mother was not allowed to breed but
she managed to have a fling with the father that produced the litter mine is
from. No cat from that litter can be shown but it doesn't matter she is a
wonderful little cat and I just adore her.

Don't want a show cat anyway.

Thanks for the info.  Lucy has very prominent fur points at the tips of her
ears and they're black, like her gray/black tabby spots and stripes, in
contrast to her beige/tan facial fur.  Cindy has smaller points.  From doing
a search on Norwegian forest cats, I'm certain that's not their breed.  I
did read, however, that the darker tabbies like the blacks, grays, and
browns, are forest dwellers and the light cats, the whites and creams, are
desert dwellers.

Plenty of cats both pedigree and non-pedigree have black tufts at the
tips of their ears.

Since the only cats which are Maine Coons are those with registered
pedigree parents, the answer is simple - look at the registrations and
pedigrees of the parents.  There are plenty around which are MC-type -
but without the registry and pedigree they should not be considered to
be an MC.

I never really noticed other pedigrees with prominent black points, but most
of the tabbies have smaller fur points like Cindy's.

These cats are the offspring of a stray or feral Mom cat.

So are good old non-pedigrees, even if they look a little like a breed
or two...
