Neutered cat humping...

I have a weird problem with my cat that I can't find any information on
anywhere. My four-year-old neutered cat is obsessed with humping
blankets. He climbs on them, starts purring and kneading them, and then
humps away. He does this almost every day, and it is gross. He has even
tried to hump my leg under a blanket, though I quickly stopped it.

I am hesitant to be really firm with the cat about this because it
starts out as purring and kneading the blanket, and so I'm afraid that
if I stop the behavior it will send the message that purring is a bad
thing... if that makes sense. Otherwise, he's a really well-behaved cat
and doesn't scratch furniture or spray or do any other bad behavior. I
don't even understand why this cat does this since he is neutered.
Anyway, does anyone have suggestions with how to handle this? Have you
heard of neutered cats acting this way?

Whats the harm here?  If it makes your kitty happy then let him be..

The harm is that the cat tries to mount people's legs when they are
underneath the blanket, and I'm pretty sure he will try to do it to
guests too (such as people staying overnight). So, yeah, I don't really
like the idea of my cat humping my guests. It's a constant thing he does
at least three or four times a day

It's definitely not a nursing thing -- he gets a hard-on when he does it.

the kneading is usually a sign of nursing, which is USUALLY indicative of a
cat being taken away from the mother too young.  Humping is a form of
dominance.  Neutered cats will do it to show dominance over another cat..
guess its just your way of telling that blanket who is boss.

LOL... well maybe, but would he also be purring and kneading other cats
when he is showing dominance? It seems like something is mixed up in his
head.

Poor cat, first you cut his balls off and now you want to strip every last
bit of manhood/pride from him. I have 2 cats and would never declaw/neuter.
That is like cutting off a mans balls and fingers.

I think it's more like giving kitty a vasectomy actually rather than
cutting his balls off! It's all very humane and the responsible thing
to do really.   :)

Declawing.....well, don't get me started on that one. Those who do it
to their cats deserve to have the end joints of THEIR fingers removed
to see how they like it!

Well I hope you're at least responsible enough not to let your cats
outside if you're never going to neuter them. Wow, it must be fun to
have two cats fighting and spraying around your house all the time ...

My female cat has a blanket fetish too.  Though she doesn't actually hump
it.  She gets it between her front and back legs and wrestles around with
it, kicking and biting and the such.  My wife will make a bump in the
blanket with her toe and slide it toward the cat.  When this odd aggressive
bump of blanket gets near to the kitty she pops straight up in the air and
lands on it biting and kicking.  We had to get rid of that blanket and
replace it with a less fuzzy one, because she would swallow bits of fuzz
from it and we were afraid that it could harm her.  She doesn't seem
interested in the new fuzz-less blanket.
If your blankets are the fuzzy type, maybe you could try a smooth quilt or
something like that to see if the cat reacts the same way.

Change the blanket to one that IS NOT fuzzy and the cat will stop humping.
Have you ever seen a Korean Mink Blanket?  It is not actually from mink or
any other animal, however, it is very fuzzy.  Anyone that has a cat that
might possibly hump a blanket, they surely will with a Korean Mink blanket.
