When I was in Vietnam I did taste the "little tiger dish" aka cat meat for
us Americans. It tastes like a very soft pork tenderloin not bad at all the
big problem I have with the practice is the methods used to kill the cats
prior to preperation. For the protestors, the practice of eating cat is just
like any other meat product we eat to indians our cow consumption is
considered just as bad. It is a cultural not moral difference folks.

I've been saying this for some time now, particulary defending attacks
on the practice in soc.cuture.korean.  I feel that people have a right
to eat whatever animals they wish, as long as the animals are not
endangered or carry dangerous diseases transmissable to humans.  But
I would even consider allowing consumption of endangered species if
they were being captive-bred for this purpose.  But my personal opinion
is that eating of dolphins not be allowed, as I believe they show
signs of sentience; it seems akin to cannibalism to eat an intelligent
creature.  You are absolutely correct about the Indians' attitude
that we are barbarians for eating the cows which they feel are sacred.
Or pork, for example.  Muslims would rather die than eat a pig, but we
have no problem with it.
