> How much will I expect to pay for a Bombay kitten from a breeder ?
In addition to the cost of a purebred kitten, you should also realize
that there are Vet costs in the first year: not only shots, but neutering.
As an alternative, you may wish to contact breeders directly to see if
they have a retired (adult) show or breeder cat available for adoption. You
will be getting not only a neutered cat who is more likely than not a
champion, but unlike a kitten, the adult personality is right there in front
of you. The cost is usually about half of the cost of a kitten, but that may
vary depending on the cat's pedigree.
I'd suggest that you go to a cat show, and chat with Bombay owners to
find out more about the breed, and to find a reputable breeder in your
area - most people at shows are only too glad to tell you about their cats
and many will let you handle them, and not all CFA breeders are reputable,
though the bad ones are few in number.
For more information about purebreds, and to find a cat show go to:
http://www.cfainc.org/ and http://www.showcatsonline.com/ And of course, the
breeder's ads in the back of CAT FANCY magazine will help.
In addition, Google "Bombay cats" and see what you come up with. I have
a Persian, and there are many "by-invitation-only" mailing lists and forums
devoted to Persians and their care; I'm certain that there are the same for
Bombay's.
Welcome to the world of purebred cats, you are about to embark on a
journey accompanied by a loving cat!
