My cat trixie is addicted to catnip and apparently suffers withdrawl
symptoms after a few hours without it. she is increasingly paranoid around
the family and stays in dark corners or under the bed. If I do not provide
her catnip she gets very aggresive and starts to shake and get tremors after
a while. when she gets her catnip she runs and hides with it for a while she
does calm down on it although get drunken like and staggers around the house
afterwards getting into fights with the other cats on occasions and wreaking
havok when it gets real bad. It seems trixie is going through more and more
catnip daily and now its becoming a 2 container habit weekly (98g cosmic
catnip units) also food does not seem to interest her as much and she is
much thinner with a real bad smelly coat (she no longer has an interest in
grooming) and urinates/deficates where she is hiding with no concern
whatsoever. I feel embarresed to go and tell my vet since It is my fault
that I brought this horrible addiction to trixe.

Anyone have any ideas on how to break this addiction? are there vets that
understand this and I can go anonymously without anything going on record or
bringing this to light. The last thing I need is for the regular vet or my
co-workers knowing about this addiction.

cats can NOT get addicted to nip.  The chemical that triggers  the euphoric
response in your cat never actually enters the bloodstream, so there's no
danger to your pet.

Im wouldn't doubt that you kitty is quite ill.  Probably taking the
enjoyment of nip where she can, like Medical Marijuana in ill humans.
PLEASE take her to the vets.
