Give me a break!
This past week we decided to add to our feline family. We went to our local
Humane Society and found a kitten that we thought would be a nice addition
to our family. Filled out the application and faxed it in. Our Vet had
vouched for us and we figured it was a sure thing. I went yesterday to
inquire about our application. WE were denied. WHY you ask! Because we let
our cats outside for (1) hour a day. From the time my husband gets home from
work to the time I get home and sometimes it's not even an hour. What a
crock! These people would rather kill these cats than adopt them out to
someone who lets them go outside. I for one have lost all respect for our
local humane society. I was going to adopt a cage and start donating money
to their cause but now I am looking for other options.

No need to reply - just wanted to vent.

That's terrible! maybe you should of lied to them, I bet that is what most
people do!!!!

I think they have all the right in the world to deny people who don't
meet their criteria. If they have enough adopters that do fulfill their
criteria, then there is no problem.

As long as they don't take public money, they can do whatever the hell they
want.

But they do take it. And they need to keep their crappy opinions to
themselves and give the animals away.

um.. I don't think so.  it isn't called the HUMANE society for the fun of
it.  They have the best interests of the animals as their main interest, not
making someone, who doesn't care about the best interest of the animals,
happy

Um, I think so, and as long as they try take public money, I will attempt
to oppose it.

You gotta be kidding me! They thought you were a bad gaurdian because the
cats were allowed outside???
If I don't let Squeek out he goes NUTS! Bonnie doesnt care to go out
much, she was dumped and adopted us three weeks after we moved here.

Fortunately, that sort of thing doesn't happen here in the UK. Our main
rehoming charity, Cats Protection (www.cats.org.uk), would probably be
reluctant to home a cat that *didn't* have access to a garden..! When I
adopted my Missy last December, the first thing the person who called to vet
me wanted to see was the garden..!

They also have a strict "no kill" policy; except where a cat is seriously
ill and a vet advises otherwise, a cat in their care is *never* destroyed.

I feel so at home here already. One of my cats is named Squeak
(Squeaky Pete)also and my sister has a cat named Bonnie (and Clyde).
Just curious. Why is yours named Squeak? I raised mine from a newborn
and she never made a sound until she was about 2. She's all black and
before that she was called Shadow. When she finally "spoke", it was
such a high pitched sound that really looked like it was a strain for
her to make. She was immediately re-named.

Squeak got his name because thats all he does. He's a talker. Bonnie yells
at me to get my attention but Squeaker just constantly talks. Reminds me of
my ex wife.LOL Talks alot with nothing to say.

I went through this as well.

The loons are running the shelters.

You can pick up an animal at Petsmart on Sunday. They adopt from shelters and I doubt
they have such rules. I agree with you.
