I told you all last week how my 7mo kitten was getting spayed and
declawed.  Well, everything went fine and she is healing nicely
and seems to be back to normal.  But tonight I was in the kitchen
and kitty got underfoot as cats tend to do and I turned around
and stepped on her front paw.  She cried and about a minute later
I noticed a trail of blood on the floor.  I didn't really step
on her very hard at all, but I guess it was enough to open the
wound.  Fortunately, the blood clotted almost immediately and
I put a bit of the antibiotic ointment the vet gave me on it and
she seems to be okay now (no limping).  Poor kitty!

But u don't feel sorry for declawing?
Strange...

Why should he, loon? I declaw all my cats. Keeps me from shooting them.

I must say that kitty seems to have adapted quite well to life without
claws.  If you all recall it was me who defended her but I was
overruled by my family.  It really isn't such a horrific procedure
as some of you suggest.

The pain/discomfort from the procedure is only one of the things we try to
warn about.  Approximately 1/3 of declawed cats will later show behavioral
problems such as urinating outside of the litter box, spraying, and biting.
Many of these cats end up by being left at shelters or simply dumped
somewhere because people are unable or unwilling to deal with these
problems.  Many declawed cats will also suffer from arthritis because their
bodies are not in correct alignment after declawing --  after all, this
involves amputation and not morely the removal of claws.  Fingernails on a
person are not the equivalent of claws on a cat!

Not one cat, not ever.

Not one cat, not ever.

You guys need to come up with better mythology.

Every cat I ever had declawed began biting
a very few months later. And they were not biters
before the procedure.

I don't declaw my cats anymore.

And why do u have cats?
If u can't accept them as they are?!

I adopted a cute little kitty that was declawed.  Her owner was moving and
couldn't keep her.   She the best kitty I've ever seen.  Sweet as pie and so
well behaved.  I've had her a couple of months and am still pinching myself!

Chopped the gonads of any cats lately, loon? Kept any cats from going
outside and hunting lately loon?

Hypocrite.

all my kitties "gonads" are gone.. because it is healthier for the cat, not
to mention it keeps down the pet population, and none of my cats go outside

get a clue before you start throwing stones

So you do modify your cats! In a much more drastic way than getting them
declawed. And you attempt to keep cats from being what they are - namely
hunters.

I get my cats declawed because it is healthier for them, and I do not let
them go outside.

You need to work on reading comprehension, loon. I'm pointing out the
hypocricy of the anti-declaw loons here.

Are you one of them?
M.S - 01 Nov 2003 22:07 GMT
Yes, and they are not outside unless I'm out with them.

Declawing is pure cruelty to cats. Its not comparable with cutting of the
"gonads".
That keep the population down and many other things that u should know if u
have any interest in cats.
Scratching is something a cat have to do for it's own wellbeing.  Scratching
is not only for keeping the claws short.

I understand that u don't want be reasonable so I give up.
I'm not god at writing and express myself in english and I have better
things to do so this is the end of discussion.

Based on what, loon? Your interpretation of what is cruelty and what is
not? My cats _all_ recovered much faster from declawing than from getting
spayed or neutered. Much faster.

So you are nothing but another hypcrite.

> That keep the population down and many other things that u should know

I know why this is done loon, but I also don't have your illusions about
what it does for a cat. For one thing it negatively affects the health of a
cat long term.

> Scratching is something a cat have to do for it's own wellbeing.

Nonsense. If going through the motions of scratching are important to a cat
then they can still do it when declawed.

Reasonable to people like you is believing exactly what you believe, loon.

Same to u, trailortrash!

My cats recovered in one day. An (ex and very stupid) friend declawed her
cat...it took many days to recover and the cat stopt using the litterbox.

Whatsamatter, loon?

> My cats recovered in one day.

Bullshit. I have yet to see a cat recovered in under a week.
