I felt his frustration. You work all day and all day Cat sits
somewhere lounging lounging. Sometimes I want to scream, "Will do you
one productive thing? Just one thing?? Will you bring me the paper or
fetch my slippers?"
Cat will not.

That's not a cats job, you should have got a dog if you wanted that.
Mama brought me a mouse because she thought I was hungry.
Their job is to be vigilant against mouse and insect home invasion,
even when their resting.
When I was young, I brought my cat Tom to an old womans house
who was having trouble sleeping at night because of a mouse
rummaging around.
Tom had that mouse in 5 minutes...no mouse trap in the world is that
efficient....even an engineer can appreciate that.

I wanted a cat. I got one. Nevertheless, I sometimes feel a sense of
being victimized because while I am busy working she is busy . . .
doing nothing. I can't accurately describe this feeling of helpless
frustration. I guess I was raised to think that everyone lends a hand
when it's time to do the dishes. Isis does not lend a paw.
The other day a spider went scurrying across the carpet. She used to
snag those little boogers but no more.
Today she sat on my monitor and looked me right in the eyeballs. I've
told her more than once "Don't eyeball me, Isis." Well, I decided to
stare right back. Before long her telepathic beams had made mincemeat
out of my brains.
A few posts ago I objected to her announcements. She announced when
she was coming into a room or leaving or about to jump on me so she
could get to The Box. You pointed out that we do that, too. As I've
watched myself I see that I do make announcements and plenty of them.
"I'm going out and will be back in 30." "I'm going downtown today and
I'll be back by 5:30. I left you food." "Sorry I got home late."
Every night we have a cuddle time. We have worked out an arrangement
where I use her as a pillow. It's quite comfortable for all concerned.
To my mind, such as it is, this compensates me for everything. It
balances the books.

Just remember, Isis is a princess and you have no royal blood.
