Two of our cats must be ultra-stupid. Occasionally they get a scrap of ham
or beef when I'm making my son's sandwiches in the morning. They growl at
ME - and I'M the one who gave them the meat!
Two of the others grab their scraps and disappear off to the garage to eat
them.
The last one shifts her gaze between meat and me as if to ask "Is this
smoked? Has it passed its 'use by' date?" whereupon it's stolen by one of
the other cats.

lol...that's quite the variation of personalities you have there.
Most times my Big Mama will eat about 1 or 2 very little bites of
something,
then won't have anything else to do with it.
It's almost as though she only wants to 'have her cake, but not eat
it'.
In other words; for her, the offering is more important than whether
it's
edible or not.

That's quite unusual. For most cats, anything tastes much better if it's
stolen.

She is a polite cat.
Never fussy when it comes to food.
She just thinks it's polite if I ask her if she wants some...it's only
good manners.
Although now that I think about it...she does occasionally steal my
place
in bed if I get up for any reason...
"I can haz your bed place"?

Maybe that's their way of saying "yumm!" :-)

My mothers cat Chico does not make much noise when he sees or wants
food. But the strange thing he does is to open and close his mouth in
a snapping motion. !

When my father was young, (before 1900) he used to go to the butcher's and
get free liver for the cats and dogs, and he would eat it himself. (he loved
liver, and almost no one ate it in those days) The butcher shops would give
it away for free. I never asked him how he found out it tasted good the
first time.......:^)

Just about any cat I've ever had would growl if you'd dare touch it while it
was eating.
Some of them would growl just a little...but one in particular was
amazing...
she was pretty close to being a miniature lion!!!!
Not one to fool with.
Now days, when I see a cat feeding...I just plain do not distrub !!!!
