I'll be darn...never heard of that before...but I learned something
new today about the condition.
I was surprised to find out that it could indeed have something
to do with an iron deficiency (among other things).
Very informative.

Along the same lines, my Deetoo likes to lick things that are chromed. My
first thought was that she does it because it's shiny and she mistakes the
chrome for water, but now I'm wondering.

Does she lick anything else smooth? I think they like the texture - there
are smooth domes available for cats to drink from:

Thank you all for your replies. I found the Pica thing to be interesting
so I called my vet.
He said 4 out of 5 times it is a Potasium deficiency. He wants me to try
to get him to eat bananas. If he won't eat them, disguise them in ice
cream or something. He said after a week or so of eating bananas, he
should be cured! This guy is an old horse doctor and the best I've seen.
Hope it helps someone else!

I would love to see a picture of your kitty eating a banana.
FYI There is a salt substitute that is potassium. Be careful - don't
overdo -- a little goes a long way. MLB

Figures.....It's easy to get a horse to eat bananas, but did you ever try to
get a cat to eat one? - Good luck!

oooh...yes I have seen pictures of that before and thought it was
among the strangest things I've ever seen a cat eat.
I couldn't figure out why a cat would eat such a thing...but that
makes
some sense now.
I think you have a good vet that knows what he's talking about.
