My cat is dying

My cat has some strange disease of the tongue.  A large part of the tongue
is dead tissue.  She has been to the vet.

The cat is a 12 year old spayed female.  WIth the tongue problem it looks
like the cat will starve to death.  I live in an apartment.  What to do with
the dead body when she goes?

Have your cat cremated the vet can arrange the process

1. The vet should put the cat down so it doesn't suffer, and/or starve to
death.
2. The vet should also know what to do with the cat's body after it is dead.

When is the time to put the cat down?   She still has a good sized belly.

If she is not eating, then she is suffering. The universe is over 20 billion
years old.....Why do you wait? Time of life is unimportant. Only the quality
of life counts. A cat that is too sick to eat has no quality of life. Put
her down now.

If she's not eating or drinking water and just moping or sleeping, it's
time.   That's a always a heart-breaking decision, but you're doing it
for her.

The cat still drinks water.  And some food but not much.

Also the cat has a very healthy appetite.  Just can't get the food down.  We
are trying all kinds of ways to get food down the cat.

Any suggestions?

Well, try soft canned food. Don't put her down until
you truly think she is suffering.

Yes of course.
It would help if the vets diagnosis was included in this post.

Surely the vet would have told "tom" prescribed procedures
for dealing with this affliction.

How does a cat that's starving have a "good sized belly"?

How does a cat that's starving have a "good sized belly"?

The same way that children are starving but appear to have full bellies

The diagnosis is not clear, but the right half of the tongue is dead or
dying, left half unhealthy color, swollen lymph nodes in the neck.  Blood
work all normal.   Apparently, the cat is is in good health except for the
tongue thing.

strong desire for food, but great difficulty getting anything down.  We are
feeding her the special canned vet stuff mixed with water.  also trying to
get some down with a syringe.

The cat was very heavy in the summer.  14 lbs

The cat is now at 10 LBS and still strong by the fight she put up at the
vet.

Did the vet rule out cancer

Does the vet have any idea what it is  if not time for another vet opinions

My thoughts exactly.

Swollen lymph nodes to me would indicate the cats immune system is
trying to fight off, or being attacked by something.

I'm no expert, but you would think the vet would have tested the
blood
for cancer, toxins and/or other diseases by the dead/dying tounge
tissue.

Very puzzling.

I will probably get a lot of flack on this but I can not help but
wondering if this original post was a legitimate post after reading
the above 2 post by the original poster or if it was an attention
getter or such.

In first post says the cat is in good health except for tongue thing
but yet the cat has fair sized or enlarged belly, trouble eating and
they using a syringe to get food down, has swollen lymph nodes, has
lost weight since summer but is in good health.

Just wondering here.

If it is a legitimate post good luck to you and the cat.

FYI    I had the same thought :troll".

I have no idea why you would think this.  The cat has had more thorough exam
since.  The whole tongue has serious disease condition, most likely cancer.
Blood is normal except for elevated WBC.  The rest of the cat is in good
health.

The cat is now starving since the tongue is preventing food from going down.
The cat was 14 LBS in the summer.  It is now 10 pounds.  When it was 14 LBS
it had a big belly.

Tom I can explain this  we get a lot of a@@jacks in these groups that come
and play on our sympathy or make cruel remarks.   Most of us a damaged goods
when it comes to this.  We all have been burned many times.

I make it a policy to treat it as truthful unless it appears to be off the
way better safe than sorry. I rather be burned than be wrong.

Plus we are on the internet we only have what the other person post to go
on and we are only human.  If you say blue I might say royal blue when
describing a color etc

 Happy Holidays

You could cremate her. Ask the vet about it.
That way you will always have her ashes with you.
Or if you don't think you would like that you can always
make a grave for her or just let the vet take care of the body.

The first cat I had (as an adult) that died, I had her cremated and
spread her ashes in back of my house she liked to hunt.  In my mind, she
was set free where she loved life the most.

That is a good idea. I think she would have liked that.

What did the vet say was the problem?

Personally myself I would stop horseshitting around and take the cat
back to the vet.

When she dies stick her underneath your pillow and the fairies will
take her in the night.

What utter nonsense.
