My cat has been doing this for years and I finally decided to see if anyone
out there observes similar behavior.

Occasionally he will use his litter box (#1 or 2) and when he has concluded
dart out of the room and do a lap around the house about 100 mph.  He also
has the full on raccoon tail (totally puffed out).

After a few minutes, especially if I play "I'm going to get you" and chase
him around, he reverts to his normal feline self.

Any thoughts?

My Deetoo does the exact same thing. She goes into the litter box, does her
business and then comes out all full of energy and goes hyper around the
apartment. I guess it's a natural reaction to feel better after going
through the process.

I have to admit wanting to do that myself after a few meals, particularly
Mexican.

Yes, I've seen that before from other cats...nothing unusual...
but funny none-the-less.

I think that all the cat's I've ever had have done that...
I always get a kick out of it though.

I also play "chase the cat" my Anniekat loves it...
I'm glad to know that other people do that too...
my girlfriend thinks I'm a bit cookoo!!!
