I commented a few weeks ago about taking my 2 1/2 year old Deetoo into the
vet to have some teeth with cavities removed. A week earlier when I took her
in for her regular yearly check-up, the vet pointed out that when the
corners of her mouth were touched, (at the hinges of her jaw), Deetoo's
lower jaw would shudder and that was an indication of tooth problems,
possibly cavities.

Well, it's now been three weeks since the teeth were extracted (7 teeth
total including one of her canine teeth.) And, although I was shocked at the
number of teeth removed for such a young cat, especially one of her canine
teeth, I'm happy to say that Deetoo's lower jaw no longer shudders when I
touch or scratch her there. And when we wrestle, she's back to trying to
bite me. That makes me feel better.

For a number of months, Deetoo had the shuddering jaw problem and all this
time I thought it was just a naturally sensitive nerve area. Obviously,
she'd been in pain all this time from it and couldn't tell me. It bothers me
that I didn't pick up on it. At least she's ok now and I've learned a lesson
for possible future problems.

Yes....A couple of years ago, we had one that stopped eating....After a
couple of days, we called the vet, and she came to visit in her roving
ambulance.....Missy had jaw cancer, and had to be put to sleep. Cats seem to
be able to put up with terrific pain without complaining......Now, I look in
their mouths every once in a while, as well as feel over them for lumps and
the like........
