Hi

I've not been on this group before but now find the need to due to a
situation that arose yesterday. I have a male cat called Taco he is a ginger
and white tabby and now we also have a black and white fluffy kitten as she
was dumped on our doorstep yesterday. I run a rabbit rescue centre so am
thinking this is why she was dumped on us. We would like to keep her but
need to know if the following is normal behavior.

Taco seems to want to play with the new kitten showing no agression but
meowing softly at her but the new kitten is growling, putting her back up at
him and hissing. I believe the new kitten is female but not 100% sure but
will be getting her checked over by the vet. If she turns out to be a boy
then would both boys live happily together? sorry thats two questions.

thanks april

Assuming Taco is already neutered (if he isn't, get it done immediately),
and that you have the kitten neutered/spayed by about 6 months of age, I's
expect you to have an excellent cat situation.  Two are better than one,
and it seems you have a very laid back cat already.  It's not unusual for
a new kitten to hiss and spit at strange cats, and it's not unknown for
males to become surrogate mothers for kittens: one of my males has taken
every kitten that came in after he did under his wing, acting as a
mentor and as a pillow.

Yeah....Just give them a little time....Males get along with each other
better than females do, but if they are raised together from kittenhood,
then there is seldom any problem.....
