Am now thinking of not getting a cat flap, but taking Zee B out on a lead.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried it & could give me some info on
harnesses, etc.

TIA

Ive done it with my guys, and I know a number of people who do it
successfully.  Really depends on if the cat is interested in going outside
with you.  My little girl kitty isn't interested at all.  I take her out on
a lead, and she just sits there looking at me like Im insane.

The city we used to live in had a by-law that your cats had to be on a lead.
Ours went out our front door and played on the steps and the lawn.  We were
careful to watch em when they were out.  Now that was live in a flat they
just go out on the balconey by themselves but it's not that hard to Lead
Train you cat.   We just stuck em on our cats and opened the door.  After
the first few attempts to escape they knew that the lead was there to hold
em back and they didn't try again.

Thanks for the info, Tina :)

Seems an odd law to have to have your cats on a lead when out.

I shall try using a lead on Zee B & see if she accepts it.

Thanks for your reply, Connie :)

Every time we head for the door, she bounds out & seems like she can't wait
to go out.  I guess the only way to find out is to get a lead & try it.

Thanks again

its recommended not to let your cat walk out the door on their own, cause
they will learn they can, and some time when they aren't on a lead they
might try to escape.  Not sure how true this is, but I buy into it.

I am not happy for her to go out on her own, as there are about four other
black cats that look the same as her & I am not sure if the cats round here
have been vaccinated or nutered too.

There is also a busy road at the front of my flat that I wouldn't like her
to get involved with, so I am very careful not to let her escape.

Thanks for the concern, Connie :)

depends on the cat.
one of my cats goes passive resistance and refuses to move, the other likes
it.

I guess you have to train them as kittens.  I put a leash on my last cat
and she resisted, she would just sit down and refuse to move, I would
literally have to drag her so I just gave up.  I had a ferret that I
would take places on a harness leash.  He didn't seem to mind at all.
Ferrets really have to be on a leash or they will simply run off.

I have met a ferret & they are sooo cute, but very mischeivious too.

I shall buy a cat harness & give it a try, thanks :)

We take our cat out now and again on a lead. She's deaf and various people
have told us not to let her out alone so we bought a lead. She's happy once
she's out but it takes about an hour to get the thing on and off her because
she hates it. thought she would of learnt by now!

btw.. I used to bring my rabbit out on a lead.. :) he usually liked it,
unless it was very bright and hot.

it was adorable.  Great to see him out on the grass enjoying the day. He was
an indoor bunny and lived to just shy of 12 years before I lost him last
month.
