We have a New Thing. I got a houseplant for my kitchen table. I wanted to
add a little color to my kitchen. It's called a Dutch Treat. It's really a
fig tree from southeast Asia but it can be a houseplant if you keep it
trimmed.
I don't think this is toxic to Isis. She discovered the New Thing and now,
every morning, she makes a beeline to my kitchen table and starts nibbling
on the leaves. She doesn't like to eat them as much as she enjoys tearing
off the leaves and dropping them on the kitchen table for me to clean up.
I would like to keep this little plant and not watch it get decimated into
shreds. What can I do? Is there maybe some kind of "Nasty Kitty Taste" juice
I could spray on it? Lemon juice, maybe?
A friend suggested I get a catnip plant for her to destroy and I might be
interested in doing that but I do prefer to give her her Catnip fix once a
month rather than every day.
Thanks!

Just get a hanging type pot, and hang it where the cat can't get to
it....Pretty soon she'll forget all about it.......

I bought these "cat grass" seeds and planted them in a square
container. The grass is about a foot high now and the cats love
chewing it. I never seen this stuff before (UK) but apparently it
helps with their digestive system.

I've found the ficus benjamina on several sites listing toxic plants for
cats, and have always kept ours away from our ficus bonsai tree....we used
the misting bottle to train them to stay away. ;-)
We have a whisky barrel in the back yard and a planter on the front porch,
both filled with catgrass (wheatgrass) and catnip. We let them out (attended
only) for short periods and they love it!

Growing it in the kitchen sounds like a great idea for you. I was growing
it inside but have found it does better and lasts longer outside for us
(Texas, USA), and since the yard is secure we can let them out frequently.
They stay away from other plants (house plants and outside plants) now. We
did have to fortify the garden to keep them out of it, but.....
