So sorry about Caldecat.  Your write-up on her was very sweet.   I hope your
heart heals soon.

Oh, me too.  What a sad, sad loss.  So hard when they die, but a loss
that didn't have to be is double hard.

Condolences.

No matter how hard we try, there will always be tragic accidents that
happen
and people who have to live with the consequences.
No need to be too hard on yourself...the coulda, woulda, shoulda stuff
can
not always be envisioned. We can only do our best with what we know,
and that must be sufficent, no matter how insufficent it may turn out
to be.

Caldecat was content to be with you, and that's what matters most.
If it weren't for you, Caldecat may have never known what it was
to be content.

Given the choice, I'd rather live a day in contentment, than a
lifetime in dispair.

You are young...one day, another kitty will come into your life by
chance,
and your experience will make it all the better then, knowing the new
kitty
needs your new experience just as much, if not more so.

Yep. I'm reminded of the episode in the original Star Trek series
where Spock asks his father why his father married a human woman. The
reply was "At the time, it seemed the logical thing to do."

She was very well-adjusted cat. If there are enlightened beings, she
may have been one.

I'm 46 years old, but have felt ancient for as far back as I can
remember even way before kindergarten. My friend and I had two other
cats that we were going to find other homes for (the place we just
moved to only allows one pet each), so I did a kitty swap with the
realtor's permission. I have another kitty, one we had adopted last
year when she was tiny. Luna knew Caldecat and I am keeping Luna now.
Milo went to another place we had stayed before. We can visit him
anytime and if circumstances change, we can take him back.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies.

I hope to write a tribute song to her soon.

I had wondered why or how she fell into the neglected swimming pool.
It had about five feet of stagnant water covered with green scum, and
the pool had slippery fiberglass sides. Once she fell in, she never
had a chance of getting out.

I was afraid she had been chased there by a predator (we were on a
river front property, and there are foxes and even cougars in the
neighborhood). However, last night a local woman quite familiar with
cats (she has thirty on her river front property), told me that
Caldecat was probably hunting bats as they skimmed over the swimming
pool. So probably she wasn't being hunted; she was HUNTING.

If so, then Caldecat died doing one of the things she loved doing. I
used to tell my daughter if Caldecat wasn't around when my daughter
wanted to see her, that Caldecat was off doing "cat things" or "being
a kitty."
