Isis Adjusting Well to New House

Her Majesty, Isis, the cat, is now settling into my new digs pretty well.
She is still a bit skittish about entering my office, but her appetite is
rip-roarin' fine and she is sleeping like never before. She has decided my
bed, upstairs, is the place to spend her days dreaming of mice parties, I
imagine.

To avoid a problem with territorial urination in this new house my vet
suggested Prozac. I stared out with 50 millileters but that was too much so
I have dropped the dose to 20 millileters and will continue to gradually
drop it to the absolute minimum level possible.

I took her to the vet because of a problem with, er, her breath smelling
less than springtime fresh but her teeth and gums are in A+ condition so it
may have something to do with her constant diet of food and more food, even
though her weight is stable at six and a half pounds.

She is still quite cranky in the mornings but that is normal because so am
I. In short, I would say another month in the place and we will be back to
our normal routines. I remain, as always, her obedient slave and caretaker.

Isis just came down for a quick inspection tour of the new office and then
left. I know what the problem is. In the old office I had a box that sat
under a special energy hog 250 watt lamp. She used to spend hours sunbathing
in that. There's nothing like that now. In fact, I don't currently have any
hot spots in the house. Oh, boy.

I'm working on this problem today. My eastern and western walls have no
windows. Unless I blast out some walls I cannot get Isis hotspots that way.
I am putting up dining room curtains and I can leave those open for
semieffective southern facing hotspots.

I see now that I am going to need a dedicated hotspot place in this house
somewhere. It will have to based on electricity and a 250 watt bulb. Isis is
napping now in her dedicated sleep spot on my bed upstairs so I will let my
mind churn on how I will fix this.

You already got one. Just put kitty in the oven on self-cleaning cycle.

You can always get one of those pet blankets the ones that use the furballs
body heat instead of electricity  I got a couple of these  and mine love
them

I like this idea, Matthew. What are they made of? Are they soft? Washable?

Thank you!

Washable yes  soft yes   it is a thermal blanket of sorts   nice thing is
claws can't rip it IME so far  the furballs fight to get on them during the
day even though there are 10 of them laying around  you know cats

I used a waterproof heating pad for "my" feral cat for a while, (until he
learned to come in the house) But you have to be careful that you just keep
it on "low", because it can get too hot otherwise....they do make special
heating blankets for animals, but they don't put out much heat.....

I leave a heating pad on all the time for my Deetoo. Even though it's almost
June out, she still uses it, so it isn't time yet  for me to shut it off for
the summer. That and sleeping on my bed a foot underneath the Luxo lamp over
the bed are her hotspots.

This place I'm in is fairly big and Isis and I sleep in separate quarters as
she is a very bad Bed Hog who is unable to be happy with a full half of a
queen size bed. So, she sleeps downstairs and I sleep upstairs. If this
changes in the winter I'll get her a nice heating pad where I can keep an
eye on it. Sometimes those things make me nervous if I'm not aware of where
they are . . .

I know what she is used to. She wants that blazing heat from direct sun or
the 250 watt sunlamp. I have failed again. Nothing I do is enough. Sigh.
