Yesterday I had to put my cat to sleep but I wanted to point out
something.
For years we couldn't figure out why she was going outside of the
litter box after years of using the box. (She was 18 years old,
had her since she was 8 weeks old.)
Well now we know. Last week her kidney levels were very high,
we tried an intrevenous drip to bring it down, alas she got
progessively worse, and yesterday I had to put her to let her
go. She stopped eating, was having trouble walking,
and seemed to know the end was near.
But the point here is for years the vets/behaviorist and I thought
it was behavioral, the tests always came back normal. Now the
tests show an extremely high kidney level.

Thanks for posting this. You have given a good warning to many people
because urinating outside the litterbox is often an indication of kidney
problems (UTI, etc.). It's also important to have urine tests and not
simply rely on blood tests because the problem will be much more advanced by
the time it is detected in blood tests.
I am so sorry for your loss. Your cat was a beloved member of your family,
and she was fortunate to be loved for more than 18 years.

I would mention we had blood tests/urine tests/etc. up the wazoo
for years trying to find the problem. They all came back normal.
I brought her to a behaviorist who ran a complete physical exam
and tests on her. Everything came back normal.

Sorry about your kitty. 18 years, however, means she had a good long
life.....But I don't know what you mean by, "kidney levels". What levels are
you talking about?

Condolences. You did the best you could for her.
