As does "my" male feral cat....

I know the house my cat goes to....I put a collar on him once, and he put up
with it for a few days....Long enough for the other family to read it and
telephone us.....He likes to sleep on the cover of their hot tub....So, he
eats our roasted chicken, and sleeps at their place.....A block and a half
away.....

Yes, that was a good idea to find out where he goes, plus make a new
acqauintance in the process.
I'm still amazed at how Macavity did that though all by himself,
it shows a precognative thought process.
He had use his mind to preconcieve what the desired outcome would be
by getting
on the bus. A bus that is a tool in the domain of humans exclusively.
Such feats are usually reserved to training an animal to perform them,
or by
trial and error.
But it almost seems that Macavity reasoned the process out, without
error.
Quite extraordinary really.

Yes, but different cats have different backgrounds...We have one that came
across the country by car....From Connecticut to Oregon, stopping at rest
stops along the way...She is very car acclimated, and will sleep in our car,
and not even wake up when we get in and drive it away....We are always going
back and letting her out because we can't take her with us.
It's hard to say how Macavity got accustomed to traveling on the
bus...Someone might have taken her the first few times....Perhaps some kids
took her one stop away just to see if she could find her way back, and she
could.........

Possibly on another bus, perhaps...

Not according to the bus driver who drives that route.
The driver said the first time it happened, Macavity snuck on amongst
other
passengers, and he only noticed Macavity when he got off.
He had never seen the cat before.
He didn't see anyone carrying him on, so he most likely did that by
his
own will, as he got off the same way.
To me, it sounds like he's reasoned the situation out regardless of
previous travel
experiences.
He's going from point A to point B, on his own accord, and using a
human tool to do it.
He would have had to have the exact same previous experience before to
know
where he would end up.
Otherwise Macavity has observed the bus stopping at the 2 different
locals, using his
keen sense of vision to see the bus' actions at long range perhaps.
And understanding
the time of the bus, and it's steady repetitive actions.
We may never know for sure what the true facts are, but I'd say that
cat was a genius
regardless.
And *if* it is truely precognative reasoning, it puts a whole new
dimension on animal
thought processes, and the way humans should think about them.
