Many older people do consume cat/dog foods in order to be able to
still purchase their medications, pay rent....etc.

So therefore you have pointed out the bigger question.....How many
people are getting sick?

I think it could be very dangerous to consume pet food.  I
read on a pet food package, in all CAPS, "PET FOOD ONLY, NOT FOR HUMAN
CONSUMPTION."  There are, most likely, chemicals in pet food that can hurt a
human's insides!
Now, I'm not saying I never ate dog treats, but it is just weird, now that
you think about it, to eat your pet's food.
Pet is probably thinking, "what is wrong in my owner's head!?"
I do not endorse eating pet food in any way.  It's just stupid!  Even if it
does make your pet eat his/her food,  I just would find some other food
unless it's important to keeping your pet alive that that specific food be
used.
