Hi
A friend of mine's was adopted by a stray pregnant cat, and decided she
couldn't handle it, so that's how I've ended up with a cat.
She's 2-3yrs old, and is a beautiful silver/grey tabby.
I keep being told by Aussie breeders to keep her in my bathroom with
food, water tray, a litter tray and a box with newspaper and towels to
give birth in.
I joined an English list, and have been seriously chewed out by breeders
there for keeping her in my bathroom. I leave the door wide open and she
still stays in there.
She's a very sweet girl, she hasn't scratched me, and she loves my tummy
tickles. I have a young ish dog who sleeps indoors most nights, so I
close the door so he doesn't stress her.

Am I doing the right stuff for her? After she's had the bubs, I plan to
worm, de flea and de mite her. I will then take her to the vet to see if
she's been microchipped, then I'll have her speyed. She seems to love
and trust me, I want to do the right thing by her and her kittens.

It's been a long time since I had a similar experience,
but it sounds like you're doing a very satisfactory job.
Especially by letting her decide where she wants to be,
and keeping the dog away.
Just make sure she's as comfortable as possible, with
the least amount of noise, and the rest will take care
of itself hopefully.

Generally female cats do not like their stomachs touched,
especially a stray who doesn't know you well.
But it could be she is submitting her trust to you for the
good treatment you are showing her at such a vunerable
stage.

If by some chance you keep one of the kittens, I can
tell you right now, you'll be family because the kitten
will come to recognise your scent as part of them.
And that kitten will be grow-up to the best cat you
could possibly ever have.

Your planned post treatment with taking her to the vet
for a overall checkup sounds good also.

I had a similar experience...We kept one of the kittens from Mama's brood
(plus Mama) and Hobbes is closer to me than the other 6 cats.
