I was at Meijer yesterday and saw Meijer Indoor Cat Food in a bag that
looked suspiciously similar to Purina Indoor Cat Food with similar
shaped pieces and identical nutrition information (stupidly, I forgot
to read the ingredients).   Is it possible that Purina is making the
food for Meijer?  I'd hate to switch to an off brand just to save
money, but if it is the same, why not.

More than likely.  Grocery stores don't make cat food, or almost all of the
other products they "private label".  The large chains go to brand
companies and tell them if they won't private label for their store, some
other company will.  Yes, they cannibalize their own brand (Purina, in this
case) but they still make money on the private labeling.

Sometimes, even though the store brand is made by the Name brand,
often the STORE brand
is a higher qualtity than then name brand...and is almost never worse
than the name brand.
This applies to everything from tissue and toothpaste to food items.
(My daughter's chemistry class in Middle School did a project
comparing store and name brands that made the store brands, usually
there was no difference at all, or a minor difference (food coloring,
shapes)... and when there was a difference the store brand was usually
significantly better. )
