Hi All,
I have a white cat who has an aversion to cleaning her own butt, so I
have been wiping it with baby wipes whenever possible. However,
sometimes I'm not home when she goes so it sits awhile and now her fur
is stained yellow and washing it with plain soap and water is not
helping.
Have any of you had this same problem and if so, did you find a way
to get the fur white again?
Even if you've never had this problem I would welcome any ideas you
have for what I could use to clean her with (something not harmful to
the cat of course).
Thanks!
Marie

Marie,
I have never had this problem. However, I had a cousin who had a West
Highland white terrier. It used to get some areas that looked stained,
especially around the eyes. They used baking soda to restore it to a
clean-white look -- plain, dry baking soda massaged into the fur and then
brushed out. It did an excellent job. (Note: baking soda, not baking
powder; and be sure to brush it out well because you don't want the cat to
swallow too much. You might also want to check this out with a vet before
using it on a cat because I don't have any experience with it.)

Hi, you might want to try higher quality food, when I fed my cat some
cheap junk (like meow mix) his bum used to be really messy, but with Iams
his bum stays clean "by itself" because the food digests properly and
creates "perfect turds". sounds funny but its for real :)

I used to feed her Iams and had the same problem plus her bowel
movements were quite smelly. I've now switched to Nutro's Natural
Choice which was said to reduce stool odor and it has.

is it a long haired cat? if so you might want to take a trip to the
groomers and have them shave the fur around that area so it can't stick to
her fur. how old is the cat? If she is very old, she might not bend as well
as she used to.. maybe a trip to the vets to talk about some cosequin to
help her joints.
also, i can't imagine baby wipes taste very good. It might be one of the
reasons she might be avoiding cleaning her self. I would recommend just a
warm damp face cloth.

yes by using a baby wipe I think this will discourage her to clean herself
because of the taste. I think its down to the cats diet, one of my cats has
very long white hair and she has no problems, the other has a shorter coat
but no problem either

Hi Marie
what are you feeding her on? both my cats have white bottoms, and I never
have any problems. Never have to clean them myself, no staining
