I've got a small (10gal) fishtank up on a shelf which is about 3ft higher
than my bed (about 5ft away from the bed on the wall), and my cat loves
to sit there on the bed watching the fish for hours.

I had a fish tank years ago.  One of the cats I had at the
time would stand on the top of the tank lookng at the fish.
She never could figure how to get the door open.  She
didn't realize she could get the door open if she wasn't
standing on it.

I always wondered if the fish were aware of
the cat nearby thinking "dinner."

I went down to the local shelter to help out with adoptions yesterday.
Someone surrendered a pet mouse that someone had left in the apartment they
owned.  A staff member put the cage on a table a few feet away from a cat
condo that had five kittens in it.. they all immediately stood up to get a
better look at the mouse, it was absolutley adorable. (the mouse was kinda
cute too)

hey that's a smart apartment complex. Someone finds a rodent? say the other
tenants must have left a pet...
I wonder if it will work for roaches.
