Our kitten seems to like to gnaw on a cardboard box - one in particular.
Anybody know why a kitten (age 6 +/- months) would want to chew the edge
of a cardboard box to shreds?

That's what kittens do. Consider yourself lucky that it's not chewing up all
your electrical cords, at least not that you've seen. It should eventually
outgrow most of the chewing.

Just because they can.
Otherwise, they're exercising and strengthening their jaws and keeping
their teeth clean....and having a bit of fun doing it.
Much like a rawhide would be for many dogs.
Better a cardboad box than something else that may not be as
inexpensive.

One of my three-year old ragdolls still chews cardboard boxes. I
doubt if she will ever quit. But, I see it as just another toy for
her to play with and am careful not to let cardboard boxes that I
don't want ruined within her reach.
