My cats are 16 and 17 and have eaten dried food all their lives. I
switched them to canned, alternate protein, because one of them started
having intestinal difficulties and also the vet said canned is better
for them than dry. Problem is, they don't seem to know how to eat it
and after several weeks still haven't figured it out---or I haven't
figured out how to present it. They lick and lick it till they have
compacted it into a paste sticking to the sides of the bowl. I put it
on a flat plate, but they just push it off their plates with their
tongues and then lick it on the floor. It's driving me nuts! Has anyone
ever had this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

If your cats prefer dry food - perhaps this will turn out to be an agreeable
alternate protein source for them.

Perhaps you can condition them a bit by giving them some of the hard food
with a soft centre.

Hopefully you are still giving them dry until they get used to eating
the canned / moist ?!?!?

Try mixing the canned food with the dry. Start with more canned food then
dry and overtime lessen the amount of wet food that you are mixing in with
the dry. That should get them used to the dry over a period of time. Good
luck and let us know how everything is going!
