That is true for the keychain type pointers. A high quality pointer such as
the one found here:
http://www.atlasnova.com/RedLaserPointer650nm.htm
These use standard AA AE AE batteries and a set of batteries will last for
over 100 hours. No plastic. All mental. Not made in China.

No, no! Really, it's all in your mind....just *think* the beam and it
will appear. Much safer that way.

And uses less batteries.

A spell checker wouldn't catch that, a grammatical one would.

LOL
I am a perhaps overy enthusiastic user of a speech to text program called
Dragon naturally speaking version 9. I am amazed at the accuracy of this
thing. Perhaps overly impressed, one still needs to proofread. I of course
meant to say, all metal, notably bronze construction. In fact, these people
are also pet lovers and will sell you one of these for only eight dollars
including batteries, but without the gift case. They charge five dollars for
shipping for the first one. But any additional pointers will only be charged
an extra one dollar. These are exactly the same high quality lecturing
pointers that you will find at places like RadioShack, Office Depot, Staples
and so on for $30. Sent an e-mail to them or call them for this deal, you
will not do better.

I've tried a number of of them. None will last 100 hours. Divide
that by about 10.
Consider getting rechargeable batteries.

Probably made in Taiwan.

There is a considerable difference between the two countries.

I know. Suffice to say it probably ain't made in the US of A.
Since it isn't made in China and not made in the USA that means
probalby Taiwan.

Sad to say, but all we seem to do is sell stocks and bonds and flip burgers
for each other.
