I agree with the other person that said put a phone number on the collar telling anyone who feeds this cat to call. Good way to meet a nieghbor you might not know and make a new friend.
Would be interesting to find out how far kitty travels to get a good meal. ;)

Imagine them trying to milk their cat!!

edie humperdink - 11 Sep 2006 05:53 GMT > And to what lengths that family will go to feed him when he gets there. > Imagine them trying to milk their cat!! this brings up a good question. can you tell if a newborn kitten is male or female?

If you know what you are doing you certainly can. I have always been able to sex any kittens born to my cats within the first 30 minutes after birth.

[quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > Die dulci fruere, > Nicolaas. Yes true. For most people however, they need to wait a few weeks to notice signs of testicular descent into the scrotum. On account of waiting for that sign, it can take longer to be sure you have a female since you can spend some time waiting to see if it is a male with delayed testicular descent. If you have a lot of experience looking at a newborn kitten's rear end, however, there are much more specific signs, but they are also sometimes much more subtle and best left to those who know.

edie humperdink - 12 Sep 2006 22:49 GMT i adopted my kittens from the ASPCA and they were supposed to have had their testicals snipped. When I feel their stomach area, they seem to have scars. Is this typical?

You don't even know the SEX of your very own kittens, eh?
Sounds like what you are feeling is the scar from a SPAY surgery (ovio-hysterectomy), which is for females!
Either that, or their 'belly buttons' :D

I would expect to find an abdominal scar in a speyed female cat, but a male cat's testicles are external to the body so I would not expect castration to leave abdominal scars.

If you can feel them, but not see them, then perhaps you are feeling supernumerary nipples. Boycats and girlcats have them, especially noticeable after birth on account of their exposure to maternal estrogens during pregnancy.

edie humperdink - 15 Sep 2006 03:19 GMT i think they must be nipple because they are lined up 3 to each side, sort of like what you'd imagine a pig's nipples to be like if pigs gave milk.

Ummmmm...
Not sure how familiar you are with the animal kingdom, but pigs are members of the mamal family, which means that the females give live birth, and nurse their babies...
Therefore pigs *do* give milk
...and just in case you were referring to a *male* pig, they are called boars, not pigs (no matter what species of pig you are referrihng to).

In my case, I would have to put; "My other family feeds me Fancy Feast" collar on Big Mama. This would undoubtably prevent others from feeding her.
