My cat my have a type of allergy and I don't have any money at the moment to
take him to the vet,  could I give him a small dosage of Benadryl to
alleviate some of his pain or is that not a good idea?  I just want to know
what I can do for him at the house untill friday (payday) when I take him to
the vet.

NO read this info

You can't be sure what the problem is you are not a vet.

Can you call your vet and tell them you need to make payments.  If that vet
won't call another vet or the animal hospital to see who will

Any human medications is not a good idea EVER to give to an animal unless
directed by a vet

Now  maybe  we can do some self help here in the newsgroups. We are not vets
remember that!
What are the symptoms?
What pain is the cat in?

Phil's site http://www.maxshouse.com/Drugs_To_Avoid_in_Cats.html

ANTIHISTAMINES AND DECONGESTANTS (PSEUDOEPHIDRINE, CONTACT, BENADRYL,
CHLOR-TRIMATON, etc.) Dosages are not well established in cats for these
drugs,   and these should not be used without
express consent from a veterinarian.  These drugs can cause depression, ,
hyperexcitability, , vomiting, fever, muscle tremors, rapid or depressed
heart rates, disorientation, and seizures.

Do not under any circumstances attempt to treat the cat.   That is
what the vet is there for.  That is why the vet goes to school for
all those years.  And a number of vets will help by setting up a
payment plan.

A good rule to follow is "when in doubt do nothing".   You could kill your
cat by giving the wrong medicine.       Purrs for your kitty ,  Try to
figure out what he/she is coming in contact with or eating that could
bother him/her.  Finding and treating allergies takes a lot of "police
work".  MLB

Bear in mind a normal human dose could kill a cat (
Average human = 160 pounds, average cat = 10 pounds.)

Bear in mind an allergy is nothing to play with.   You need a vet.
For example there are human allergies that if not treated
in minutes could kill you.   Assume the same thing for your cat
and get him to the vet.

Take him to the vet NOW..!!!

I can't emphasise this enough, NOW..!

Any reputable vet will come to some arrangement with you about payment.

Go now, before replying to this..!

Don't administer any medication intended for people until your cat has been
examined and a vet as given specific instructions.  Call your vet and see if
you can make a payment plan.  Most vets with accept credit cards, and some
would even permit you to write a check and postdate it to Friday (which you
said is your payday) or Saturday.
