Cat Not Eating

My cat hasn't seemed interested in food a couple of weeks and has lost
weight.  The rest of her behavior is the same, and she does all the same
things she used to, and is drinking as much water as ever.  She's just
stopped eating.  With a little coaxing I can get her to eat a few pieces,
and she will lick up the gravy that comes with cat food, but that's about
all she will do.
Does anyone know why a cat would stop eating?

For about a month we had a horrible kitten that upset her (and all of us)
and we finally gave the kitten to friends.  But I think it was after we gave
him away that she stopped eating so I am not sure if having this very
troublesome kitten around for a month would have anything to do with her not
eating or not.

Please take her to the Vet immediately.

Cats have extremely high pain thresholds, so for something to be
upsetting enough to put them off basic survival drives it is ALMOST
always serious.

My elderly cat also lost weight, and needs far more diet adjustment to
eat properly.  Fortunately, it's only because of his weak sense of
smell, and requires stronger odors to kick start his hunger.
